동등비교 / 원급비교 / 동급비교 는 모두 같은 말로서 ‘as ~ as …’ 구문을 가리킨다.

 

‘as ~ as …’는 ‘…만큼 ~한/하게’라는 뜻의 원급 비교 표현으로 두 개의 비교 대상이 서로 동등한 상태임을 나타낸다.

앞의 as 와 뒤의 as 사이에 수식어인 형용사나 부사가 들어가고, 뒤의 as 다음에는 비교할 대상이 온다. 뒤의 as는 앞과 뒤의 정도가 동일함를 나타내는 등호(=)와 같은 역할을 하는 연결어이다.

 

as + <형용사 / 부사>의 원급 + as ~ : ~만큼 <형용사 / 부사>한[하게]

She is	as	kind	as	him. [he is]

 

 

	as	부사	as (=) 앞 뒤가 같다는 뜻
She drives	as	carefully	as	him [he does].

 

‘as + 원급 + as’뒤에 ‘주어 + 동사’가 오는 경우 목적격으로 바꿔 쓸 수 있다.

 

I can sing as well as she can.

= I can sing as well as her.

 

→ 보통 as him/her/me 등으로 쓰며, 다음 두 가지 형태 모두 가능하다.
She is as nice as him. / She is as nice as he is. 그녀는 그만큼이나 멋지다.
He works as hard as me. / He works as hard as I do. 그는 나만큼 열심히 일한다.

She is as cold as ice. 그녀는 얼음처럼 차갑다. 

 His riddle is as difficult as hers. 그의 수수께끼는 그녀의 것만큼 어렵다.

He is as tall as his father. 그는 그의 아버지만큼 크다.

She is as old as my sister. 그녀는 우리 언니만큼 나이가 많다.

I like him as much as you. 나는 너만큼 그를 좋아한다.

Today is as hot as yesterday. 오늘은 어제만큼이나 덥다.

He can dance as well as she can. 그는 그녀가 할 수 있는 만큼 춤을 잘 춘다.

This month is as cold as last month was. 이번 달은 저번 달 만큼 춥다.

A tiger is as brave as a lion. 호랑이는 사자만큼 용맹하다.

Peter has to learn English as hard as her. 피터는 그녀만큼 영어를 열심히 배워야 한다.

She wanted to know some information as exactly as you. 그녀는 너만큼 정확하게 몇몇 정보를 알고 싶어 했다.

Mike is as tall as his father. 마이크는 그의 아버지만큼 키가 크다.

This candy is as hard as a rock. 이 캔디는 바위만큼 딱딱하다

This book is as thick as that one. 이 책은 저 책만큼 두껍다

 

 

‘as ~ as …’구문의 부정

not as[so] + 원급 + as ‘~만큼 …하지 않은[않게], not as … as에서 첫 번째 as대신 so를 쓸 수 있다.

 

Your room is not as big as mine. 너의 방은 내 방만큼 크지 않다

= Your room is not so big as mine.

A lake is not as big as an ocean. 호수는 바다만큼 크지 않다

= A lake is not so big as an ocean.

He is not as tall as his father 그는 그의 아버지만큼 키가 크지는 않다.

I don’t like him as much as you. 나는 너만큼 그를 좋아하지는 않는다.

She is not as old as my sister. 그녀는 우리 언니만큼 나이가 많지는 않다.

Peter speaks English not as fluently as you. 피터는 너만큼 유창하게 영어를 하지 못한다.

His first album was not as striking as his next album. 그의 첫 번째 음반은 다음번 앨범만큼 주목받지 못했다.

This bank is not as huge as that one. 이 은행은 저것만큼 크지 않다.

This computer is not as expensive as that one. 이 컴퓨터는 저것만큼 비싸지 않다.

 

 

as + 원급 + as + 주어 + can(could)

 

as + 원급 + as + 주어 + can(could)는 ‘가능한 한 ~하게’라는 뜻으로 as + 원급 + as possible로 바꿔 쓸 수 있다.

 

She gets up as early as she can. 그녀는 그녀가 할 수 있는 한 일찍 일어난다.

= She gets up as early as possible.

 

He went into his room as quietly as he could. 그는 가능한 한 조용하게 그의 방으로 들어갔다.

= He went into his room as quietly as possible. 

 

The foreigner talked to me as slowly as he could. 그 외국인은 그가 할 수 있는 한 느리게 나에게 얘기했다.

= The foreigner talked to me as slowly as possible.

 

She tried to find out the solution as early as she could. 그녀는 가능한 한 빨리 해결책을 찾으려고 노력했다.
